How AI Impacts The Mental Health of Black Men

January 11, 2025by 0

Let’s face it, AI is here.

The question is, who will be left behind?

As we celebrated International Men’s Day earlier this week, it’s crucial to reflect on the challenges Black men face in today’s rapidly evolving world – particularly in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). Have you ever wondered who benefits from AI?

AI can do amazing things, like creating helpful tools and making our lives easier in many ways. But it’s important to talk about the challenges too. Sometimes, new technology like AI can take away jobs or make things feel even less fair, especially for people who are already struggling.

If you’re feeling worried about these changes, it’s okay. You’re not alone, and these are big shifts for everyone. What’s important is to focus on how we can work together to make sure these tools help everyone, not just a few. It’s about being mindful and creating a future that feels fair and supportive for all of us.

AI-driven changes in the workforce and systemic biases may negatively affect Black men. Research shows that Black workers are at greater risk of job displacement from automation, with one study estimating that 24% of Black Americans work in industries most vulnerable to automation by 2030.

This article was informed by conversations with a group of Black men who shared their perspectives on mental health. Many expressed concerns about how these AI-driven changes might impact their futures and contribute to mental health challenges. At Mindslike, we understand these difficulties. Our work focuses on providing culturally relevant mental health support tailored to the unique experiences of Black men .

At Mindsilike, We create safe, non-judgmental spaces where men can discuss the mental health impacts of systemic inequities, share their fears about the future, and build resilience. Whether through one-on-one counseling, workshops, or peer support programs, our goal is to empower men to thrive despite the obstacles they face.

This is the reality of power structures that have historically exploited minority groups. In an AI driven society, the question isn’t just who benefits, but who is left behind? From biased algorithms to gatekeeping in tech spaces, the intersection of race and technology often reinforces exclusion, leaving Black men to navigate a system that undervalues their contributions while amplifying stress and self-doubt.

However, AI also holds potential to support Black men’s mental health. AI-powered mental health apps can provide on-demand support, offering guided meditations, mood tracking, and culturally relevant content designed to reduce stress and anxiety. By increasing access to resources, AI can become a valuable tool in fostering mental well-being.

This International Men’s Week, we encourage Black men to prioritize their mental health. If you’re feeling the weight of economic uncertainties or struggling with the pressures of navigating systemic barriers, Mindsilike is here for you. Our culturally informed approach ensures you’re met with understanding, empathy, and tools to help you regain control and confidence in your journey.
